This is a fine Victorian locket pendant with a carved intaglio dark carnelian stone, c. 1880. The piece is set in 9K gold (tested, not marked). The back comes out to allow hair or a photograph. It measures 1" by 3/4" and with the jump ring, it is 1 3/8". The gold has a rose colored hue that might not show in the photographs. Condition is excellent.
