This outstanding, tiny purse features excellent French Mid-nineteenth Century workmanship: beautiful chasing and detail on the silver frame, and lovely painting on the pastoral miniature painting on porcelain in the central reserve. It measures 3" x 2 1/4" x 1/2" closed, and opens on leather hinges, the only place where there is any wear at all. France, c. 1850 -70

Mounted on a mocha colored velvet cloth and framed in gold, this Limoges, or Limoges-style French plaque itself measures 2 1/2" x 3", while the mounted work measures 6 1/2" x 5 1/2". The plaque displays a scene of the nativity with Joseph watching Mary and the infant Jesus being adored by angels. The piece is in excellent condition, museum quality framing and dates from c. 1900.
