A fine and rare pair of Japanese Imari porcelain covered jars, 19th Century. Each decorated in a traditional Imari palette with central panels painted with a dragon and phoenix surrounded by smaller floral reserves. The jars have wonderful gilt monkey head handles domed covers with crouching foo lions. Dimensions: Height Width. Condition: Very good with minor surface wear consistent with age.

The fall front lid with vigorously grained walnut opens to an elaborate stepped interior fitted with small drawers and dividers framing the prospect door. There is a sliding panel in the writing surface which opens to reveal the map well. The case is fitted with two short drawers over two additional long drawers.
